DISEASES ARE INTERCONNECTED.
SO IS OUR RESEARCH.
Our mission is to discover the triggers of chronic diseases through innovative research that improves human health across the lifespan.
At Pennington Biomedical, we uncover the triggers of chronic diseases - in other words, what is happening in the body before disease occurs. Many chronic diseases, like heart disease and diabetes, share the same triggers. We have learned that other seemingly unrelated diseases - like dementia and obesity - are connected. It is for this reason that we have created a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to our research that we call "science without walls".
Unlike other medical research facilities where science occurs in separate labs or "research silos," we foster an environment where researchers in one discipline work in close proximity, often just a few laboratory benches away, from an investigator in another field.
Scientists in 48 laboratories and 19 core research facilities are encouraged to explore and exchange ideas - confident that the cures to chronic disease will be discovered at their roots.
In this way, Pennington Biomedical is discovering the mysteries of multiple diseases and finding comprehensive, prevention-based solutions that offer hope to more people.
