Physical Activity and Obesity Epidemiology
Faculty
Research Focus
The focus of this laboratory is on understanding the effects of physical activity, fitness, and obesity on morbidity and mortality, with a special emphasis on pediatrics and ethnic disparities.
About this Lab
Our research involves using epidemiological approaches and large-scale population studies to answer important questions in public health related to physical activity, fitness and obesity.
Our work involves:
- Conducting empirical research on the effects of physical activity, fitness, and obesity on morbidity and mortality
- Conducting systematic interventions in community and primary care settings to determine the effectiveness of different approaches to reduce obesity and improve health
- Surveillance of population trends in physical activity, physical fitness, obesity, and other chronic disease risk factors, and quantifying their impact on population health and the health care system
- Synthesizing, evaluating and disseminating the existing evidence of the health consequences of physical inactivity and obesity in the form of scientific reviews and commissioned documents to inform both clinical practice and policies aimed at improving the health of the population
