Research Focus

The Public Health Genomics lab focuses on integrating genetics, ancestry, and lifestyle science to help individuals and communities use genomic information as a personal and public-health tool. The lab develops innovative research approaches that examine how genetic ancestry, cardiometabolic risk profiles, and tailored behavioral strategies can support better health outcomes across diverse populations. The core aim of the lab is to design and evaluate practical, culturally grounded interventions — digital, clinical, and community-based — that make genomics accessible, understandable, and immediately useful in everyday health decision-making.

About this Lab

The Public Health Genomics Lab develops practical, community-centered approaches to help individuals use genetic and ancestry information to guide nutrition, wellness, and cardiometabolic health. Current projects include a lifestyle + genomics program in Baton Rouge (Linking GAINS), a digital genomics education platform (GENESIS Ai), and a maternal-health genomics study for women 18 and older.
