Research Interests

Dr. Waldrop is a specialty trained physician board certified in pediatrics, obesity medicine and as a physician Nutrition Specialist. Her primary research interest areas include advancing an understanding of the role of maternal and pediatric nutrition on long-term risk of non-communicable diseases (e.g., pediatrc obesity and associated co-morbidities) in general, and particularly via epigenetic mechanisms (i.e., DNA methylation).

Research interest areas also include identifing potential epigenetic biomarkers of disparate health outcomes (e.g., pediatric obesity, type 2 diabetes) for earlier identification and classification of childhood obesity phenotypes, as well as contributing to the formulation of more precise, preventive nutrition recommendations for children based upon the above, and in particular, groups considered high risk (e.g., infants and children of mothers with obesity and/or gestational diabetes).
