RESEARCH INTERESTS

My research will focus on identifying the novel ion channels, neural circuits and neurotransmitters in neurons and adipocytes that are critical for glucose sensing, feeding behavior, energy expenditure and body weight. We have the expertise in both neuroscience and ion channels. Specifically, by using the Cre-loxP/Flp-frt strategy, we plan to generate unique mouse models with the genes of my interest (e.g. vGLUT2, vGAT, KCNN3, Adiponectin, ERa/ß, 5-HT2CR, AgRP, POMC, etc.) manipulated in specific populations of neurons and adipocytes at the time of choice. I will use these models, in combination of the electrophysiology, fiberphotometry and chemogenetics/optogenetics, to establish the physiological relevance of specific neural networks in the regulation of glucose balance, energy homeostasis and obesity. Ongoing projects in the laboratory include:
1) The voltage gate calcium ion channel activity in glucose sensing neurons.
2) Regulation of asprosin in adipocytes.
3) The 5-HT neural circuits and depression.
