Research Focus

The Metabolism-Body Composition Laboratory provides a wide range of evaluations across the full lifespan. These include multiple 3D optical imaging, bioimpedance analysis, ultrasound, and anthropometric measurements using state-of-the art technologies

About this Lab

The laboratory closely aligns with other units at the Center that provide whole-body magnetic resonance imaging and dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry evaluations for body composition and indirect calorimetry for basal and 24 hour energy expenditure measurements. The laboratory is active in developing mathematical models relating human energy expenditure and body composition to the dynamics of weight loss during treatment of obesity. The laboratory is supported by federal grants, industry contracts, and philanthropy.
