Institution Review Board (IRB)
To conduct its responsibility effectively, Pennington Biomedical Research Center maintains an Institutional Review Board (IRB) to review human subject’s research protocols. The IRB is an autonomous administrative body established to protect the rights and welfare of human subjects recruited to participate in human subjects research activities conducted at Pennington Biomedical.

The IRB uses an electronic management system know as IRBManager.

Pennington Biomedical is a participating institution for both reliance platforms, SMART IRB and IRB Reliance Exchange (IREx) to facilitate multi-institutional collaborations.
SMART IRB is a platform designed to ease common challenges associated with initiating multisite research and to provide a roadmap for institutions to implement the NIH Single IRB Review policy (effective date: January 25, 2018).
IRB Reliance Exchange (IREx) is a web-based portal freely available to support Single IRB review documentation and communication.
