The 24th annual Wellness Day for Women to welcome hundreds of women from greater Baton Rouge for screenings, exercises, demonstrations and more

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana – The annual Irene W. Pennington Wellness Day for Women returns to Pennington Biomedical for the 24th year, delivering a menu of screenings, services and other activities to participants from across the Capital region. The event will be held on Saturday, March 2, from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the C.B. Pennington Jr. Conference Center at Pennington Biomedical Research Center, located at 6400 Perkins Road in Baton Rouge. Registration is now open and limited to 600 participants.

“We are excited to welcome women from across Baton Rouge to our campus every year for this event,” said Dr. Leanne Redman, Pennington Biomedical Associate Executive Director for Scientific Education. “With screenings, educational courses, exercises and more, the Wellness Day is an outstanding opportunity for women to enjoy a Saturday morning focused on health and mental wellbeing.”

With four out of 10 women reporting feelings of stress, the 2024 Wellness Day will once again focus on mind and body wellness. The event will feature more than 10 free screenings, including a total lipid panel, EKGs, several cancer screenings and many more, which will be held throughout the day. The day kicks off with an introductory class of Chair Yoga, an innovative take on traditional yoga for all fitness levels, hosted by Woman’s Center for Wellness.

The day continues with education sessions on topics including heart disease, hormones, and precision nutrition. Following the educational sessions, a hands-only CPR demonstration will be provided by the American Heart Association. The Mobile Blood Donation Center from Our Lady of the Lake will be on site to collect blood donations, and participants are encouraged to donate, as all blood types are needed.

“Pennington Biomedical is uniquely positioned to not only be on the cutting edge of biomedical research, but to engage with our community and share what we’re discovering with our friends and neighbors,” said Dr. John Kirwan, Executive Director of Pennington Biomedical. “Of course, this day would not be possible without all our partners and the sponsors who join us in bringing easy access to health screenings and useful information.”

All participants of ages 18 and older will receive a Passport to Wellness Card upon arrival and will be able to collect stamps on their cards throughout the day as they participate in activities, with prizes distributed for completed cards.

Sponsors for this year’s Irene W. Pennington Wellness Day for Women include hosting sponsors Pennington Biomedical Research Center and Pennington Biomedical Research Foundation; presenting sponsor Our Lady of the Lake; contributing sponsor Blue Cross and Blue Shield Louisiana; and in-kind sponsors Baton Rouge Cardiology Center, Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center, Woman’s Hospital, Team Blue, Our Lady of the Lake Cancer Institute, and Jason’s Deli.
