Two Clinical Scientist Positions at Pennington Biomedical Assistant/Associate/Full Professor level Pennington Biomedical Research Center, a world renowned research facility in Baton Rouge, LA, is seeking qualified candidates for 2 full-time faculty research positions in the area of obesity, type 2 diabetes and metabolic diseases. Pennington Biomedical, a campus of the Louisiana State University System, is internationally recognized as a center of excellence for metabolic research. It sits on an idyllic 222-acre campus within the Baton Rouge Health District, and has state-of-the-art clinical and basic research facilities. The clinical facilities include a comprehensive outpatient center devoted solely to clinical research and a 20 bed in-patient metabolic research unit staffed 24/7. The center has 4 metabolic chambers, provides state-of-the-art measures of insulin action, has dedicated exercise testing facilities, an ingestive behavior laboratory, a fully accredited clinical chemistry lab, and a free-standing biomedical imaging center. Candidates for these positions are expected to have established an independent research program in obesity, type 2 diabetes and metabolic diseases with a high likelihood of continued extramural funding. Candidates will have the opportunity to work in a collaborative environment among faculty who are using clinical, basic, population, and translational approaches to find triggers and new treatments for chronic diseases. Team science is encouraged. There is ample opportunity to participate in the training of postdoctoral fellows. Candidates with an MD degree will be expected to maintain expertise in the medical field, and board certification and membership on the Pennington Medical Staff. They will also be involved in operating our 20 bed metabolic inpatient research unit and in planning, procuring, and executing NIH funded clinical trials and pharma-sponsored trials.
MD or PhD and experience in clinical research with appropriate publication record. Experience in externally funded clinical trials and prior history of independent grant funding. Interest in obesity, type 2 diabetes and nutritional disorders is desired.
