Study Purpose

The purpose of this study is to see how your current physical activity levels are related to brain health.

About the Study

The study requires two visits to Pennington Biomedical.

During the first visit, eligible participants will be given a device (called an “accelerometer”) to wear on their wrist for 7 days to track their activity levels. At the second visit, participants will have a blood draw, as well as have their body composition, metabolic rate, and brain health measured.

Study Design

  • 1 screening visit
  • 1 study visit


  • Vital signs
  • Height and weight
  • Finger stick and blood draw
  • Questionnaires
  • Accelerometry
  • DXA scan to measure bone density, muscle, and body fat
  • Resting metabolic rate
  • MRI scan

Study Qualifications

To qualify for this research study, participants should:

  • Be between 65 and 85 years old
  • Have a Body Mass Index (BMI) between 20 - 35 calculate your BMI

Study Duration

Participation in the study will last approximately 1 month with only 2 study visits.


Compensation of up to $100 is offered for the completion of this study.
