The purpose of this research study is to test a hydrogel capsule for its effects on weight loss.
About the Study
The hydrogel capsule is an orally taken pill that helps the body to have a continuing sense of fullness during and after meals. The capsule does not release any chemicals, is not absorbed into the body, and comes out as waste.
Participants will be randomized into one of two groups: one will receive the hydrogel capsule and one will receive the placebo capsule. Participants will be asked to take one capsule twice a day before their main meals and complete a daily food/activity diary. Throughout the duration of the study, volunteers will also receive 14 brief (15 minutes) lifestyle counseling visits.
Study Design
- Assessment of medical history, physical exam
- Height, weight and waist circumference measurements
- Blood pressure and pulse measurements
- Questionnaires
- Blood work
- Lifestyle counseling
Number of Visits: 18 in-person study visits and 1 phone visit
Procedures:
Study Qualifications
- Be 18 years or older
- Have a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 27 – 40 calculate your BMI
- Have had previous unsuccessful attempts to lose weight
- Not be diabetic (pre-diabetic accepted)

Study Duration
Participation in the study will last approximately 32 weeks.Compensation
