Study Purpose

The purpose of the Portion Size study is to examine the reliability and accuracy of the Portion Size TM and MyFitnessPal© apps during two simulated meals in a controlled laboratory setting.

About the Study

Eligible participants will use both the Portion Size TM application and the MyFitnessPal© application on two separate visits.

Participants will be trained on how to use one of the apps before using it to estimate food intake during two simulated meals. Approximately one week later, participants will return to Pennington Biomedical and repeat the process but use the other app to estimate food intake during two simulated meals.

Study Design

Number of Visits:

  • 2 study visits (the first study visit includes screening for eligibility)

Procedures:

  • Height and weight
  • Questionnaires
  • Application training

Study Qualifications

To qualify for this research study, participants should:

  • Be male or female between the ages of 18 and 70
  • Have a Body Mass Index (BMI) between 18.5 and 50 calculate your BMI
  • Own an iphone (model 6S or newer) and be willing to use it for the study

Study Duration

Participation in the study will last approximately one week consisting of two study visits. Each visit will be a maximum of about 3 hours.

Compensation

Compensation of up to $75 is offered for the completion of this study.
