Study Purpose

The GLEAM research study aims to learn more about how hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) affects the brain.

About the Study

Eligible participants will be given a CGM (continuous glucose monitor) receiver and sensors. Participants will be instructed on correct use of the CGM unit and will be asked to wear the CGM system continuously for 28 days. Sensors will be replaced weekly by study staff members. Participants will also have two brain scans in an MRI machine, one at the beginning of the study and one two weeks later.

  • Medical history
  • Physical exam
  • Height and weight
  • Questionnaires
  • Vital signs (pulse and blood pressure, etc.)
  • Pregnancy test
  • CGM sensor placement
  • Blood draws
  • MRS Scan

Study Qualifications

To qualify for this research study, participants should:

  • Be 18 – 40 years old
  • Have Type 1 diabetes and be on insulin therapy

Study Duration

Participation in the study will last approximately 28 days.

Compensation

Compensation of up to $375 is offered for the completion of this study.
