Study Purpose

The FOOD PHONE 2 research study will test the accuracy of our Remote Food Photography Method (RFPM) and the SmartIntake app in estimating energy intake.

About the Study

Eligible participants will come to Pennington Biomedical and be trained on how to use the RFPM/SmartIntake app. Then, they will be asked to use the method to record their food intake over the course of 3 days while going about their typical daily routine.

Study Design

Number of Visits:

  • 2 study visits at Pennington Biomedical (one for training and one for follow-up)

Procedures:

  • Height and weight measurement
  • DLW (doubly labeled water) dosing
  • Training for food recording
  • Questionnaire to assess preferred methods to record food intake
  • Laboratory-based simulated test meal
  • Urine samples
  • User satisfaction survey

Study Qualifications

To qualify for this research study, participants should:

  • Be between the ages of 12 and 18 years old
  • Have an iPhone 7 (or newer model) and an associated Apple ID and password; willing to use this phone for data collection

Study Duration

Participation in the study will last approximately 5 days.

Compensation

Compensation of up to $100 is offered for the successful completion of this study.
