Study Purpose

The EXACT research study is evaluating whether a physical activity program can help improve the health of men and women who have had colorectal cancer.

The goal of the EXACT study is to evaluate if physical activity can help to prevent colorectal cancer coming back.

About the Study

Qualified participants will be randomized into either the Exercise Intervention Group or the Usual Care Control Group. Participants in the Exercise Intervention Group will be provided a 12 week exercise training program and an in-home treadmill.

The Usual Care Control Group will maintain their current exercise activity for 12 weeks. Upon completion of the 12 weeks, the Usual Care Control Group will receive the same training and in-home treadmill provided to the Exercise Intervention Group.

Study Design

Number of Visits:

  • 1 screening visit
  • Up to 2 baseline visits
  • Up to 2 follow-up visits


  • Vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, etc.)
  • Medical history and physical exam
  • Body measurements (height, weight, etc.)
  • Questionnaires
  • Oral glucose tolerance tests
  • ECG
  • DXA
  • Blood tests
  • Urine tests
  • Fitness assessment

Study Qualifications

To qualify for this research study, participants should:

  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Have a previous diagnosis of colorectal cancer

Study Duration

Participation in this research study will last approximately 5 months.


Compensation of up to $300 is offered for the completion of this study. Participants may also keep treadmills used for in-home exercise programs.
