SARA-INT Study

Study Type

Healthy Aging & Alzheimer's Disease

Study Purpose

The SARA research study will assess the benefits, safety, and tolerability of a study drug in older patients suffering from age-related sarcopenia, including sarcopenic obesity.

Age-related sarcopenia is a condition found in the elderly population that involves loss of muscle and muscle function that can increase risk of falls and fractures later in life. Sarcopenia increases with age and may lead to disabilities and physical dependence.

About the Study

After successfully screening for the study, participants will be enrolled in a six-month treatment period with 3 visits to the Pennington Biomedical Outpatient clinic and one phone call with study staff.

Participants will be asked to maintain some physical activity for at least 30 minutes per day, at least 5 days per week.  Physical activity may be walking, shopping, gardening, doing housework, or light exercise at home or outside (only if you are in the habit of doing these exercises).
