Scientists from across the country will gather at the Pennington Biomedical Research Center to help launch a statewide research effort focused on early detection and cure for Alzheimer’s Disease and other forms of dementia. The scientists and members of a new organization, The Institute for Dementia Research and Prevention (IDRP), will meet in the morning, and the general public is invited for an evening discussion by a panel of experts on the “Latest Advances in Dementia Research” and the “Latest in Clinical Trials for Alzheimer’s Disease.” The public will also learn about the IDRP’s long-term longitudinal study of brain aging designed to help discover early warnings signs and symptoms of dementia.

The Pennington Biomedical Research Center is at the forefront of medical discovery as it relates to understanding the triggers of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer and dementia. It is a campus of Louisiana State University and conducts basic, clinical and population research. The research enterprise at Pennington Biomedical includes approximately 80 faculty and more than 25 post-doctoral fellows who comprise a network of 44 laboratories supported by lab technicians, nurses, dietitians, and support personnel, and 13 highly specialized core service facilities.
