Postdoctoral Researcher Dr. Kaja Falkenhain Receives Early Career Investigator Award from American Society for Nutrition

Dr. Falkenhain honored with Peter J. Reeds Early Career Investigator Award recognizing outstanding research in macronutrient metabolism
Pennington Biomedical Research Center postdoctoral researcher Dr. Kaja Falkenhain has been selected to receive the Peter J. Reeds Early Career Investigator Award from the American Society for Nutrition (ASN), one of the highest honors recognizing emerging scientists in the field of nutrition.
The award recognizes outstanding research in macronutrient metabolism conducted within five years of earning a doctoral degree or completing residency training. Established through an initial contribution from the Children's Nutrition Research Center at Baylor College of Medicine, the award celebrates early-career investigators whose research is advancing the understanding of human nutrition and metabolism.
Dr. Falkenhain will be recognized during ASN's flagship meeting, NUTRITION 2026, taking place July 25-28 in National Harbor, Maryland. The award will be presented during the ASN Foundation Awards Ceremony on Sunday, July 26.

As a postdoctoral researcher at Pennington Biomedical, Dr. Falkenhain has worked under the mentorship of Drs. Leanne Redman and Eric Ravussin. Her research focuses on cross-disciplinary investigations into human (patho)physiology, particularly how nutritional exposures affect cardiometabolic health – including glycemic control and energy expenditure. She uses her training in both basic and clinical science to understand individual responses to these interventions and to link clinical outcomes to underlying mechanisms.

The Peter J. Reeds Early Career Investigator Award includes a commemorative plaque and a $1,000 monetary prize.
NUTRITION 2026 is the premier annual meeting of the American Society for Nutrition, bringing together thousands of researchers, clinicians and health professionals from around the world. This year's meeting will feature more than 1,650 scientific presentations highlighting the latest discoveries in nutrition science and their impact on human health.
