Dr. Robert Dubin Named Fellow of The Obesity Society

June 19, 2026 · Baton Rouge, LA

Dr. Robert Dubin, Associate Professor at LSU’s Pennington Biomedical Research Center, has been named a Fellow of The Obesity Society, or FTOS, one of the highest honors bestowed by the organization.

The prestigious FTOS designation recognizes individuals who have demonstrated exceptional scholarly achievement in obesity research, including a strong record of peer-reviewed publications and significant contributions to the field. Fellows of The Obesity Society are also eligible to hold leadership positions, vote on organizational matters and help guide the future direction of the society.

Dr. Dubin is a physician-scientist who has more than 20 years’ experience treating obesity and adiposity-based chronic diseases. His primary research interest is in redefining obesity as a disease and moving beyond weight-based metrics, such as BMI. He is involved with understanding the relationship between GLP-1 RA-based therapies and body composition. He is an investigator on more than 30 clinical studies for GLP-1-based therapies and basic or population science at Pennington Biomedical. He is also the program director for the obesity medicine fellowship at LSU/Pennington Biomedical and Our Lady of the Lake clinical services in Baton Rouge.

“Being named a Fellow of The Obesity Society is a testament to Dr. Dubin’s leadership and impactful contributions to the field of obesity medicine,” said Dr. Jennifer Rood, Interim Senior Vice Chancellor and Executive Director of Pennington Biomedical. “His work is helping shape how obesity is understood and treated, while training the next generation of physician-scientists dedicated to improving health outcomes. We congratulate him on this well-deserved honor and career achievement.”

The Obesity Society noted that the designation recognizes Dr. Dubin’s demonstrated record of sustained leadership in advancing obesity-related research, clinical care and public policy through professional or lay education, policy and advocacy.

“This has been a major target for me since joining The Obesity Society in 2008,” Dr. Dubin said. “I never thought I would make fellow status but being at Pennington Biomedical the last three years and having the support of incredible mentors – Profs. Frank Greenway, Steven Heymsfield and Eric Ravussin – this became a reality. Thanks to all my colleagues and support staff for putting up with me.”

Dr. Dubin joined the faculty of Pennington Biomedical in October 2023. Before arriving at Pennington Biomedical, Dr. Dubin was practicing as an endocrinologist with Millennium Physicians Medical Group in Venice, Fla. Previously, he was a fellow in the LSU Health Sciences Center New Orleans/Pennington Biomedical Research Center Joint Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism Program. He earned his medical degree from Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska.
