Study Purpose
The purpose of the E-MECHANIC Trial is to compare the effect of physical activity and lifestyle changes on energy balance and how these changes may impact an individual’s body composition.
About the Study

Are you ready to jumpstart your exercise program?
Pennington Biomedical Research Center is looking for individuals to participate in an exercise research study. This study will examine how three different exercise programs can affect changes in your body and impact your overall health.

Study Design

Number of visits:

  • 1 Orientation visit
  • 5 Screening visits
  • 11 Clinic visits

Study procedures:

  • Doubly Labeled Water (DLW)
  • Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR)
  • VO2 Max Test
  • Whole body scan
  • Height, weight, BMI, vitals

Eligible participants will be randomly assigned to one of three groups:

  • Healthy Living Group
  • Recommended Dose Exercise Group
  • High Dose Exercise Group

Participants will complete a six (6) month exercise intervention at the Pennington Biomedical Fitness Center. Those enrolled in one of the exercise groups will come to the Fitness Center 3-5 times per week for approximately 60 minutes a session. (Alterations of this schedule can be arranged). Each week during the intervention, weight, medication usage, and adverse events will be recorded. The exercise groups will not be provided with dietary information.

The Healthy Living Group will receive weekly health tips through text message, email or postal mail. It will also include monthly seminars at PBRC on health-related topics.

All study related procedures will be provided at no cost to participants.

Study Qualifications
  • Age: 18-65 years old
  • Weight: BMI (25-45) calculate your BMI
  • Not currently involved in a structured exercise program
Study Duration
Approximately 7 months
Compensation
Earn up to $400 for participation.
