The Pennington Biomedical Research Center, a research facility of the Louisiana State University System is seeking to fill a full-time Postdoctural Researcher position in the Nutrient Sensing and Adipocyte Signaling department. The purpose of the position will be to assist in the conduct of experiments involving immunologic, tissue culture, cell culture, molecular and biochemical procedures in an obesity research laboratory. The position will also require an ability to work as a member of a team and also independently without supervision. Further aspects of the position include analysis of experimental data, maintaining effective communication with collaborators, and consistent effort to ensure the efficient operation of the research laboratory.
The minimum qualification is a Ph.D on or before the end of the calendar year. The employee will need considerable knowledge of the principles and applications of natural sciences in a laboratory setting. These skills include basic knowledge about laboratory safety, handling and use of radioisotopes, tissue and cell culture techniques, molecular biology techniques and assays, SDS gel electrophoresis, and computer use. The supervisor will train the employee to perform each aspect of the position, but the employee will then be expected to work independently of direct supervision. The knowledge required to function well in this position would be acquired through a familiarity with specific techniques could be obtained by working in a basic science research laboratory.
