Pennington’s Race for Women’s Nutrition Research was held May 3, 2003 at Pennington Conference Center. The nonprofit event consisted of a 1-mile fun run/walk around the beautiful Pennington Lake and was followed by a 5-K run/walk. The race benefited the Women’s Nutrition Research Program (WNRP), and it was a huge success with nearly 180 participants.

Hosting the event were Dr. Jennifer Lovejoy, Chief of the Pennington Women’s Nutrition Research Program; and Phyllis Greenblatt, WNRP board member and event coordinator. WNRP Board members Paula de la Bretonne and Sylvia Duke also participated.

Major sponsors of the event were Spectrum Fitness Club, represented by Troy Archer; Club South Runners, represented by PBRC faculty member Dr. Enette Larson-Meyer; Jim’s Firearms, represented by John Edwards, and Clear Channel Communications. Other contributors were Dr. and Mrs. Joe Morgan, Coca-Cola Bottling Co., Lamar Advertising, Red Stick Sports, Varsity Sports, and Associated Grocers.

The Pennington Biomedical Research Center is at the forefront of medical discovery as it relates to understanding the triggers of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, cancer and dementia. It is a campus of Louisiana State University and conducts basic, clinical and population research.
