The Position (Director of Communications): The Director of Communications plays a central, mission-critical role in the organization and execution of a comprehensive communications and marketing strategy that builds on the historic leadership of Pennington Biomedical and projects a global awareness of leadership. The Director will work collaboratively across the Center (and its staff) and affiliated organizations to implement an overall communications and marketing strategy that reinforces, prioritizes, and continues to shape the Center's place within the Baton Rouge, regional, national and international communities. Essential Functions/Responsibilities: The Director will (1) develop and implement marketing strategies across a range of platforms (media, digital, online, etc.) that further elevate the Center's recognized research leadership and excellence. (2) Build and maintain key strategic relationships with external partners to establish branding opportunities to increase the visibility of the Center. (3) Build and maintain key strategic relationships with internal partners to establish and foster communication among all Center staff and affiliate stakeholders. (4) Maintain and communicate consistent standards for the Center brand across the organization and amongst external partners. (5) Direct and strategically manage crisis communications, general communications, and public relations. (6) Manage the coordination, planning and production of publications and collateral for the institution, reaching across divisional and departmental lines. (7) Engage in continual review of programs and strategies to ensure optimal efficiency, effectiveness, and quality. 8) Advise and manage a team of dedicated communications and marketing professionals. The Candidate: The ideal candidate will have demonstrated expertise in managing teams and developing and implementing comprehensive, integrated communication efforts for diverse audiences. Must possess superior writing, social media and collateral development skills, as well as the demonstrated ability to build and maintain media contacts and community relationships. The candidate will need exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to work within a diverse academic and office environment. Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines is a must. Excellent written, presentation, and interpersonal communications skills. The candidate should be a hands-on strategist and leader of the full spectrum of communications disciplines.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and documented progressive 8 to 10 years of experience in developing and managing strategic, comprehensive, integrated communications and marketing campaigns for diverse audiences. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, or marketing. Five to 7 years of experience in managing teams, budgets, and vendors. Experience working within research, medical, nutrition or related industries a plus.
