American Recovery and Reinvestment Act
The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA), was signed into law on February 17th, 2009. The ARRA legislation provides funding to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), $8.2 billion in extramural funding, and other federal agencies to try and stimulate the US economy through the support and advancement of scientific research. Most of the funds allocated by the stimulus bill are to be used within two years.
Grants have been awarded for new research projects and for extensions to existing projects. As of November 8, 2010, Pennington has been awarded $6,530,295, including twelve grants directly from the NIH for a total of $2,395,890, and six subawards for a total of $4,134,405.
