Study Purpose
The purpose of this study is to see if a food supplement (in the form of a smoothie) will prevent stomach and bowel symptoms that are associated with using metformin for the treatment of diabetes.
About the Study

Are You Experiencing Uncomfortable Side Effects due to the Medicine Metformin?

Many Type 2 diabetes patients treated with Metformin experience unpleasant gastrointestinal side effects from the medication. Pennington Biomedical is seeking volunteers to determine if a smoothie containing a certain food supplement will ease these unwanted symptoms.

Study Design

Number of visits:

  • 1 Screening visit
  • 3 Clinic visits
  • 2 Phone calls

Study procedures:

  • Height, weight, vitals, BMI
  • Finger sticks
Eligible participants will complete (2) 2 week test periods, with a 2 week wash out period between them.  Participants will be asked to consume 2 smoothies each day of both testing periods.  All study procedures will be provided at no cost to participants.
Study Qualifications
Have been determined to not tolerate the medication Metformin due to stomach or bowel symptoms
Study Duration
6 weeks
Compensation
Earn up to $250 for participation.
