Study Purpose

The purpose of this research study is to help pregnant women maintain a healthy weight during pregnancy.

About the Study

Are you concerned about how much weight you will gain during your pregnancy?

Pennington Biomedical Research Center and Woman’s Hospital are seeking overweight and obese moms to participate in a weight management program designed to achieve healthy weight gain during pregnancy. This study will monitor changes in body weight and health throughout pregnancy and then the health of mom and baby for one year after birth.

Study Design

Number of visits:

  • 3 clinic visits during pregnancy
  • 3 clinic visits after delivery for you and your baby

All study-related procedures will be done at no cost to participants.

Study Qualifications

  • Age: 18-40 years old
  • Weight: BMI (≥25 and <40)
  • Pregnant female in the first trimester (before 12 weeks)
  • Nonsmoking
  • Planning to deliver your baby at Woman’s Hospital
  • Able to read, speak and understand English
  • Living within the Baton Rouge area for the next two years

Study Duration

22 months


Earn up to $550 for participation.
