AWARDS
The Division for Neuroscience advocates excellent science and community service. The use of the annual fund serves such purposes. To further encourage interactions within the division and better representation of PBRC with papers, book chapters, talks, grants, and volunteer services, this year’s funding is used as follows:
- Research grant award: Each applicant provided a concise one-year plan, conforming to the formality of an NIH K01 proposal. The essential elements included Summary, Specific Aims, Background, Preliminary data, Research Design and Methods, and Environment including mentor(s). The length was limited to five single-spaced pages with font size of 12. The first prize went to Dr. Kirsteen Browning. Also awarded (in order) were: Dr. Eddy Viard, Hung Hsuchou, Courtney Cain, Amul Sakharkar, Yijun Yang, and Jolene Zheng.
- Most productive researcher award (for publications between January 2005 and September 2006): Yongmei Yu; with honorary mention of Drs Kirsteen Browning and Jolene Zheng.
- Best publication award: the papers submitted were judged by significance of the work to the field, novelty, quality, clarity, insight and ability to move neuroscience forward. 1st prize: Chuanhui Yu; Second prizes: Kirsteen Browning and Hong Tu. Also on the list are Yongmei Yu, Michael Keenan, and Jolene Zheng.
- Best team award: for demonstration of the best team spirit, best support for others, and best productivity. This went to the Neurobehavior Lab (Martin, Keenan, Zhou, et al.).
- Most helpful researcher award: Dr. Hong Tu
