The TAKE 5 program adheres to American Diabetes Association guidelines. Topics include: Diabetes Overview, Healthy Nutrition and Meal Planning, Physical Activity, Medications, Glucose Monitoring, Foot Care, Diabetes Complications, and Handling Stress and Emotions.
The good news: There is now scientific proof that people with prediabetes can prevent or delay developing type 2 diabetes. The Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP) found that people at increased risk for diabetes can prevent or delay the onset of the disease by losing 5 to 7 percent of their body weight through increased physical activity and a low fat, low calorie eating plan. The study showed that participants reduced their risk of getting type 2 diabetes by 58%. PBRC is one of the sites participating in the DPP study and several of our TAKE 5 instructors have experience as life-style counselors for DPP.
